Refining the contribution of riverine particulate release to the global marine Nd budget

Abstract The release of neodymium (Nd) from particles along continental margins may contribute to losses in the global Nd budget. Changjiang River, which carries a heavy load total suspended matter, empties into East China Sea, and strong particulate–seawater interaction process occurs salinity gradient. In low-salinity region ( S < 2.0), removal dissolved rare earth elements (dREEs) occurs, but isotope values are uniform. At mid- high-salinity = 2.0–28.0 > 28.0) areas, dREE concentrations increase slightly.
